Privacy policy
You can use every public tool without an account, signup or subscription. Plain Tools is designed to request as little personal information as practical.
Who is responsible for your information
Plain Tools is the controller of personal information submitted directly through this website. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to [email protected] or through the contact form.
Tool inputs
Most text, numbers, dates, colors and files entered into a tool are processed by code running in your browser. Plain Tools does not intentionally receive or store that working content. A small number of tools that need current external information, such as city search, send the search text and routine connection data to the named external service. Those pages identify the external lookup where it is used.
Information we process
Contact messages
If you contact Plain Tools, we receive your name, email address, selected subject, optional page address and message. Providing this information is voluntary, but an email address is needed if you want a reply. The lawful basis is legitimate interests: answering questions, investigating corrections, handling privacy requests and protecting the service from abuse.
Hosting, security and basic analytics
Cloudflare delivers and protects the website and may process routine request data such as an IP address, browser information, requested path, referring site and timestamps. Cloudflare may also provide aggregate traffic and performance measurements through its hosting analytics. Plain Tools does not add advertising cookies, cross-site behavioral tracking or individual visitor profiles.
External city lookup
City-search features use the Open-Meteo geocoding service. The search term, IP address and standard request information may be processed by that service to return matching places. Do not put personal information into a city-search field.
Cookies and browser storage
Plain Tools does not set advertising or analytics cookies and does not use browser storage to track people across websites. Cloudflare may use strictly necessary security technology to deliver and protect the site. Because the current site does not use optional advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies, it does not display a cookie-consent banner. This will be reviewed before any optional tracking technology is introduced.
Service providers and international transfers
Personal information may be processed by Cloudflare for hosting, security, analytics and contact-form delivery; by Google as the email service used to receive and answer contact messages; and by Open-Meteo for city searches. These providers may process information outside your country. Where data-protection law requires it, transfers are handled under the provider's applicable contractual safeguards, adequacy arrangements or other lawful transfer mechanism.
Plain Tools does not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or provide it to data brokers.
How long information is kept
Tool inputs processed only in your browser are not retained by Plain Tools. Contact messages are normally kept for up to 12 months after the matter is resolved, then deleted unless a longer period is reasonably necessary for security, legal obligations or an ongoing dispute. Hosting, security and aggregate analytics records follow the service provider's retention settings and are kept only as needed to operate and protect the website.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or a portable copy of personal information, and to object to certain processing. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. UK residents can contact the Information Commissioner's Office, and people in the European Economic Area can contact the authority where they live or work.
California residents may request information about collection, use and disclosure, and may request correction or deletion where applicable. Plain Tools does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is no sale or sharing to opt out of. We do not discriminate against anyone for making a privacy request.
Send a request to [email protected]. We may ask for limited information to confirm that a request relates to you. Global Privacy Control signals are respected in practice because the site does not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising.
Children
Plain Tools is a general-audience utility website and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child submitted personal information through the contact form, ask us to remove it.
Changes to this policy
Material changes will be posted here with a revised effective date. The site will reassess this notice and any need for consent controls before adding advertising, personalized tracking, accounts or new services that collect personal information.
